AIS (Automatic Identification System) is a great tool to have onboard when navigating busy waterways. It provides insight into the direction other boats are traveling in as well as their speed of travel, name and type of vessel. In order to receive this information the other vessel needs to be transmitting AIS data and you need to have an AIS receiver onboard, either a standalone display unit or one that is networked with your MFD. If you install an AIS transceiver you will have the ability to transmit AIS in addition to receiving which is the recommended option so that other vessels can see you.
At Boat Gear USA we offer a large selection of AIS receivers, transceivers, antenna splitters (to use your existing VHF antenna with an AIS receiver/transceiver) and antennas for your boat. Let us know how we can help!
